Learn About the Veterans Business Academy Program

Veterans Business Academy provides a hands-on learning experience for Veterans who want to become entrepreneurs. Unlike traditional business plan writing programs that focus on ideas, Veterans Business Academy’s programs focus on ACTION. Veterans directly engage with customers to test the validity of their business model, while interacting with mentors that can help interpret what the Veteran is hearing from potential customers. Veterans Business Academy was founded by funding from the financial support from our awesome sponsors, founders and affiliates!

Steve Blank’s Customer Development process is an essential component of the Veterans Business Academy program. During the time in the program, each startup learns the methods and process to discovering and developing a profitable and repeatable business model.
All Veteran-led Startups must apply to the program for consideration. This process is highly competitive and spots are limited. The application allows our team to learn about your new or existing business idea, how much progress you’ve made since you began the process, and about your team.

Learn more about our process below or start your entrepreneurial journey today by joining our network.

Startup Weekend
We highly recommend that you pitch your idea at Startup Weekend. Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical or design backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.

The Lean LaunchPad
Each team member must present a certificate of completion from Udacity for the online course “How to Build a Startup” to successfully graduate from the academy. The free course consists of a series of video lectures taught by Steve Blank who is an Air Force Veteran, serial entrepreneur, and a professor at Berkeley, Stanford and Columbia. This course will teach startups how to effectively build a business through Steve’s Customer Development Process.

Click to Download the Business Model Canvas From the start, Veterans in our program learn how the Business Model Canvas provides an organized framework for documenting assumptions and testing problem hypotheses with potential customers. The Business Model Canvas plays a crucial role in helping startups visualize their business model and assess how decisions they make affect other elements of the business.

Throughout the Veterans Business Academy, you will have your Business Model Canvas reviewed.
*The Business Model Canvas was developed by Alexander Osterwalder.
